Fall Back

  • Mood:
Did you remember to set your clocks back?  Here I sit at the crack of night, trying to write a blog, coffee cup full and untouched.

Halloween was  uneventful, I changed the decorations out yesterday at the forum and dressed it up for Thanksgiving.  Looks pretty good, especially the turkey looking out of the oven.

Our trip home was uneventful, thank goodness.  Not much traffic and the weather was good.  We have been running around here at the home base, reacquainting ourselves with the stores and what is available.

We have an Aldi's here in Ocala now.  It just opened this past Monday, so we have been in there to see if anything was different from the ones we liked in Indiana.  It seeems that it doesn't matter how far you are from their central area you get all the same things. If the prices are kept at what they were opening week(not holding my breath on this) they are selling milk $1.00 a gallon cheaper than Wal-Mart.  Their canned vegatables sell for about 49 cents a can and are a better quality than Wal-Marts house brand.

I have been hitting the flea market on weekends for fresh vegatables.  I find they are cheaper than the grocery store, appear to be fresher and for some items I can buy just one of something and not have to take a whole box.  More and more stores are packaging the products sealed in plastic and they usually are just too much for the two of us to eat before they go south.

Have a great week, and I will try to check in soon.

Home at Last

Finally back in Florida (does Happy Dance of Homecoming!)

We had a pleasant and uneventful trip back from Myrtle Beach, but I sure was sad to leave.  We had a pleasant visit with Alan's brothers and sister-in-law, played a little putt-putt(miniature golf) shared a few meals, walk the beach and just generally relaxed.

I think I must have been a fish in another life, I could spend a lot of time just watching the waves.  Never saw a whale dancing on its tail, but that's another story and another lifetime.

Everything here in Ocala about the same.  It's been hot and we have been unpacking and cleaning up from our long trip.  Now we just keep a weather eye out even though it's the tail end of the storm season. Don't want to get blown away just as I took out all the breakables.

I found some neat things for BadgePigs and will be reworking that web page along with the RoamingRoadReport.  I just need to decide on the layout and write the codes. It gets easier everytime I work on it, I just need to settle down and get it done.

Ya'll take care til next time.

Myrtle Beach with Pictures

  • Mood:
  • Weather:
Boy have I got a treat for you.  I played with the video capabilities of my camera and did get some live action shots.  It's not the greatest as I am learning how to do this and the wind was blowing like crazy.

For the last couple of days we have been beaten up by a no named storm that blew like crazy and then commenced to rain.  The trailer rocked back and forth for 24 hours and a couple times I thought it might just go down the road without the truck.  Most of that was due to the noise of the wind howling around the windows.

This afternoon I walked down to the beach and got what I thought were some really nice shots.

The other day I mentioned that we walked to Surfside Pier for breakfast.  Alan checked the distance after we got back and it's almost 2 miles one way.  Anyhow, this is how it looks from the campground.

="">

I saw these two little boys playing with the birds who were hanging around.  Anytime you see anyone fishing, the birds will be waiting for a snack.

Can't you just imagine these two daring each other to go in the water? You go first, no..you, no..you. Mommy, she's pushing me..Mom, make her stop.

Two shots of the waves just because I like them so.

I was going to put up the video that I took but will have to do it later. It's still processing through YouTube.

It finished, hope you like it.

Ain't it a beach!

Ok, here we are at Myrtle Beach, SC.  Weather has been pretty good, but we have been so busy I don't know whether I am coming or going.  This am we walked a mile down the beach to the little restaurant on the fishing pier in Surfside to meet the relatives for breakfast and then walked the mile back again.  In the afternoon, we went and played 18 holes of Putt-Putt golf and then came back to rig.  Visited for a while and then we walked a half mile across campground for a burger(who wants to cook) and walked back.  I am sitting here trying to decide if I go to bed now(7pm) will I stay asleep all night, LOL.  Nothing worse than staring at the ceiling half the night.

I will haul out the camera in the morning and walk(!!) down to the beach and see if I can get some good pictures.  Maybe I can figure out how to get video from the camera to here.  If so, maybe there will be film of a person on a boogie board.

Notes from North Carolina

  • Mood:
  • Weather:
Today was a very good day for just wandering around.  We took a trip up the road to the North Carolina Arboretum and enjoyed just walking through the gardens and looking at the end of summer plants.

One of the more interesting portions was the quilt garden. From ground level it looks just like some very neat and precise raised beds.  From a parapet above you can see it looks just like an old fashioned quilt.  The plants they were using were mustard and ornamental hot peppers and what i call mondo grass
.

One of the plants we came across is a type of grassy plant called muhly

Is very soft and feels like spider webs and stands almost 5 feet tall. It's really gorgeous against the dark green of the shrubbery.

I love finding unique things while we walk the paths through the woods.  These guys look like children sheltering around their mother.

Here are some more that I took today.

This one glowed like there was a candle inside

Can you spot the mushroom in this one?
