You can tell it's getting to be fall up here in the mountains around Asheville, NC. Long jeans in the middle of the day are not uncomfortable at all. I even wore socks today.
We have been traveling for the last couple of days and it catches up with me every so often. We left Berea, KY this morning and traveled up and down the mountains most of the morning. Weather went from gray and overcast with a slight drizzle to foggy and into brilliant sunshine as we traveled. Each time we came over a big ridge of hills we got something different.
Here we are in Swannanoa, NC just down the road from Asheville. If you have heard about the gas shortages on the news, so have the people here. Ingles Supermarket, one of the areas biggest have closed their fuel station due to lack of product. All up and down the road the handles on the pumps have plastic covers over them and I saw at least 3 closed stations in a 3 mile stretch. Diesel is available at $4.69 a gallon. According to the interenet there is cheaper fuel down the road so tomorrow we are going to go check. We have a spare can of fuel so if need be we can get back to the interstate where the prices are quite a bit cheaper. Most of the truck stops have been selling it from $4.01 to $4.04 per gallon. We decided to wait til we got to the campsite because fueling with the rig on is a pain sometimes especially when you get into crowded areas and we had plenty on board after driving all morning.
Took a little trip about 4 miles up the road to Black Mountain. This is a small town that has been revived with crafts, small shops and restaurants and cafes. We easily found street side parking and wandered up and down peering into windows and in and out of shops that took our fancy. Their General Store is just that. It sells everything from nails and screws to collectables.
I was talking to a woman after we arrived here and she recommended My Fathers Pizza. We drove back over there for supper and the pizza was wonderful. Best I have had in a long time. They also have pasta dishes and sandwiches. Try it if you are in the area.
